The ‘91 Australian Youth Boys sealed the deal tonight on the 15th Murray Mansfield Trans Tasman Cup with an impressive show of power, demolishing New Zealand 3-0 25-11, 25-19, 25-16. In a match with little service error and low error percentage, the Aussie block was on again in a dominant performance at the net. Jacques Borgeaud stepped up tonight in his libero postion and had an excellent passing game along with Alistair Hill having his best hitting performance so far. All players had court time with substitutions contributing as well to the convincing win. With the lights going out mid set in the 3rd for 15 minutes, it didn’t deter the Aussies from picking up where they left off when play resumed. A stronger looking Carsten Moeller stepped off the plane today and was the setter tonight, giving Harry Peacock a well earned rest. Congratulations boys on retaining the cup for Australia for the 6th consecutive year.
Though dissapointed with their performance tonight, the Kiwis will be looking to take the Aussies to task the next two days in Nowra. Tomorrow is another day and the New Zealand competitive spirit is not to be taken lightly though the cup is already won. The teams will be travelling together by bus in the morning.
Earlier this afternoon, Russ Borgeaud presented Corey Bates, Sam Blair, Jacques Borgeaud and Andrew McWiggan with their Aussie uniforms. In a short presentation, Russ outlined to the team the importance of what they were doing and the privilege to represent Australia in wearing the green and gold. That green and gold certainly seemed to make the difference in tonight’s winning of the cup.
